01Background People are being displaced by climate change. Recent trends show that more people are internally displaced by climate-related disasters than by conflict - in fact, 60% of the 30.6 million people displaced in 135 countries in 2017 were displaced as a direct result of disasters. Numerous international organizations such as the World Bank have published forecasts reporting that millions of people face displacement as a result of climate change due to extreme weather, sea level rise, food security, and other disasters. The poorest and most vulnerable communities - those least affected by global warming - are the biggest victims of this crisis. This should be seen as a warning that we should work together to address current challenges in order to strengthen the building of a more sustainable future.
